Michael Lyon comes to his career in architectural photography through an architectural education that included the full series of photojournalism classes offered in the School of Journalism.
Upon graduation he embarked on a decade of documentary and fine art projects, coupled with journalistic assignments that encompassed stories for Texas Highways magazine, several city-based newspapers and magazines along with cover stories for Texas Monthly and Texas Architect magazines. An assignment to document the modern era of San Antonio’s architectural history for a book on the Architecture of San Antonio, published by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) lead to his use of 4x5 film cameras. And a documtary on the F Weigl Family of Iron workers lead to a museum show, presented by Laguna Gloria Art Museum in Austin, Texas. The show included his photography along with examples of ornamental iron work created by the F Weigl Iron Works.
Then came a move to DFW acompanied by a concentration on architectural photography assignments while continuing to produce documentary projects and fine art images. And to the current phase of architectural assignments, coupled with landscape photography, primarily being captured in The Texas Hill Country and West Texas.
